Sweden Wedding from Alicia Swedenborg

Much to my husband’s dismay, click flicks are kind of my favorite thing ever. Pretty Woman, Titanic, Dirty Dancing, you name it. They’re all total classics in my book. So when this movie-themed Sweden wedding came our way my heart did a little leap for joy. (Because when a Top Gun movie poster acts in place of a traditional table number, you know it’s going to be awesome.) Add in the gorgeous photos from Alicia Swedenborg and it’s a gallery that’s really not to be missed. Grab yourself some theater-style popcorn and peruse away right here.

From the Bride…Björn and I met at a job meeting in January 2009. He worked as a consultant on a project where I was the one who had ordered the project. From the beginning, we thus colleagues and we did not fully agree from the start. But the more we worked together, the more we both felt that there was an attraction that we could not ignore (which of course took time because we did not want to admit it to each other). In May, we started dating and we moved in together that summer – so it was that we used to say that our beginning was like a love story.

Since both Björn and I love the movie and it also felt like we had met in a movie so it was natural theme obviously love movies. That went through everything, from the style of us (Hollywood glamor) to the invitations that were designed as a movie invitation to all the music that was film music from our favorite movies. Even our seating arrangements were made for our favorite love movies and the band that played had the same name as one of our favorite characters (Dirk Diggler in the film Boogie Nights). And not to forget – we served popcorn in the church which was then used as rice outside.

We had great luck with our entire wedding weekend (guests arrived on Friday and stayed until Sunday), in that we had fantastic weather in an otherwise very rainy spring and summer. The day was fantastic – my best memory is from when my grandfather went to the Bear and thumbed him that we would be married as long as he and his grandmother (who that year had been married for 60 years).

Stonington, Connecticut Wedding from TRUE Event + Maggie Conley Photography

When it comes right down to it, there’s little I love more than a fun pop of color. And when that punchy little hue happens to be yellow layered atop a gray and ivory color scheme, you know the wedding will be something special. And let’s face it. With such a killer color combo, design by TRUE Event and blooms from Hana Floral, this wedding was bound to be nothing less than fabulous. Let Maggie Conley’s photos inspire the start of your Wedding Wednesday and see even more right over here.

Vineyard

From the Bride…On August 17, 2012 my dream wedding came to life! With a unique and gorgeous setting, an amazing team of professionals, and the perfect man everything came together to make a magical wedding day. I knew right from the start that I did not want to be married in a wedding hall or country club. Since we were not going to be married in a church, I looked for a setting where we could say our vows in nature…I wanted something rustic and romantic- someplace truly “us.” Saltwater Farm Vineyard was that place! We were married right in between the vines, had a lively cocktail hour on the patio overlooking the vineyard and partied into the night inside the transformed wooden airplane hanger. Perfection! I knew the key to having a stress-free day was assembling the perfect team of vendors and wedding professionals, the type of people I would want as friends in my everyday life! My dream team included event planner Sarah True, photogropher, Maggie Conley, florist Yumiko from Hana Floral Design, caterers Gourmet Galley and DJ Doug from Power Posee to name a few! Each and every one of these people was kind, calm, professional and so very talented! I also hoped that my obsession and attention to detail would make our wedding something really special and I believe we pulled it off without a hitch! Everyone commented on how personal, warm and unique our day was. Many even said it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to! With a gray and yellow color scheme, a lot of vintage lacey details, homemade elements, framed photos of loved ones, etc. we were able to create our ideal atmosphere!

From the Bride…The best advice we got was from a dear friend who reminded us that we were planning for our marriage, not just a wedding. We want to build our marriage around family and community- to create a foundation of love from which to reach further out into the world. So we tried to remember that this day was not about us and what we wanted and how we thought it should be, but rather, was about the union of our lives, lives which would pale if not for all those supporting us on our journeys and which will fail without their help as we move ahead. We tried to concentrate more on making our family, friends, and guests feel welcome and special than on the cute factor. And it worked!

The creative process of working with Liz and Travis, Sue, Ira and John, Katie, Lori, Shari, Rebecca at be-hitched, and Spencer really was inspiring. Our moms each choose a reading which helped shape our ceremony. All of these visions helped create a moment that was its own creature-an effort of love by many. That being said, it was really easy to get caught up in anxiety that we weren’t attending to every detail, or that something wouldn’t look right or turn out as we’d hoped. As much inspiration as I got from awesome wedding blogs, I could also get pretty overwhelmed. The more we just surrendered to the way things were unfolding, or the way that seemed the simplest, the more beautiful things turned out and the happier we were as we planned (ie, I didn’t keep Adam awake all night with my head trips about place cards).

Our officiant Pat said something along the lines that the love from this one moment, this one day, would spill out into other people’s lives in unforeseen ways for a long time. And she was right. There was a powerful feeling of love and unity in the air the entire day and especially during the ceremony. It felt so much bigger than just me and Adam doing something that was all about us. It was a celebration of love of all kinds that we know will stay with everyone who was there for a long time.

More than any incredibly cute DIY favor we could have thought up, having this heart-set is what will make our wedding day so memorable and a touchstone when things get rough (as they will) in the years to come. We are so blessed to be surrounded by so much enthusiastic love.
